Agoda.com Survey Reveals Things Travelers Can’t Live Without -- Asians Need their Phones, Westerners Need their Credit Cards

Agoda.com, one of Asia’s leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), has announced the results of their latest global survey, which reveals that Asian don’t want to forget their mobile phones on vacation while Westerners don’t want to forget their credit cards.

The survey, conducted online in February 2014, asked over 50,000 Agoda.com customers from all over the world what they least wanted to forget on vacation. Asian and Western travelers, it seems, have different priorities when packing for a trip.

Forty five percent of travelers from Asia said their mobile phone was the one item they did not want to forget; credit cards came in second with 29% of the vote. But for Europeans and travelers from the Americas, credit cards were far more important than phones. Forty seven percent of travelers from Europe picked credit cards as the item they’d least like to forget; for travelers from the Americas it was 44%. Only 19% of Europeans and travelers from the Americas picked mobile phones. The French* had the largest disparity between these two items -- 58% picked their credit card as the one thing they would least like to forget, while only 9% picked mobile phones.

Get the most out of Munich’s Spring Festival with great Agoda.com hotel deals

Agoda.com, one of Asia's leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), has put together a list of amazing hotel deals for the Munich Spring Festival. This year it is held from 24 April - 11 May.

The festival, sometimes called the Little Oktoberfest (Kleine Wiesn in German), is an example of the German habit of celebrating...well, anything. Some nice weather, a few large tents, a bit of music - and of course, plenty of beer - is all that's needed. Suddenly it's time to party! Held in the same location as the more famous and much busier Oktoberfest, the Spring Festival is a gentler and less crowded introduction to traditional German music, food, drink, and culture.

Agoda.com serves up Thailand hotel deals for the amazing Songkran festival

Agoda.com, one of Asia's leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), is offering superb holiday hotel deals in Thailand to celebrate Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year and one of the country's most anticipated annual events.

The origins of Songkran go back hundreds of years, when April marked the end of the dry season. Families gathered together, often at temples, to celebrate a successful year and to pray for a fruitful coming year. It was also a time to wash valued images of Buddha with scented water, which was then poured over the hands of senior members of the family as a blessing. It also didn't hurt that April is the hottest time of the year, and a dousing of cool water was a welcome distraction. Songkran is based on the solar calendar. This year it falls April 13-15.

What started as a discreet and modest celebration has turned into an event that fills the streets of most major Thai towns and cities. Time spent with family and visits to auspicious temples are still an essential part of the event for most Thais, but exciting street parties and over-the-top water fights with thousands of revelers have become the most visible part of the celebration.

Agoda.com, one of Asia's leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), is offering great hotel deals to celebrate Japan's famed sakura season – known commonly outside of Japan as the cherry blossom season – one of the country's most popular and beautiful annual events.

The cherry tree – its scientific name is Prunus serrulata – can be seen throughout Japan in great numbers, that for most of the year sit silently in the background. Come spring, the trees erupt with blossoms in a wave that moves slowly from the southern district of Okinawa to the northern island of Hokkaido, creating lush pink, white, and red canopies in parks and along streets throughout the country. In addition to being extremely beautiful, the blossoms are highly symbolic of life, death, unity, and the pursuit of perfection, all significant elements in Japanese culture.

Predicting the date of the blossom arrival is somewhat of a sport and guessing game in Japan. This  year the Japanese weather service has said the best viewing areas will be in Fukuoka during the last week of March, moving slowly north and finishing up near Iwaki, about 200km north of Tokyo in early April. They can be seen further north than this, but the colder weather makes their appearance less predictable.
